A Career With A Purpose

March 2009

A CAREER WITH A PURPOSE

"Purpose serves as a principle around which to organize our lives."
---Anonymous

As you enter WIN and begin to look at choosing a career path, it is important to choose wisely. Much like purchasing a house or getting married, choosing a career requires that you do some serious research. Making a poor career choice could result in you wasting your valuable time and will ultimately lead to disappointment. I encourage you to be as deliberate as you can in choosing a career.

One of the first things you should do is to meditate on your motivation. Think long and hard about what is motivating you to choose a specific career. Remember, motivation is the key to longevity, productivity and flexibility in your career. Many of the motivators that seem logical to have are the same motivators that do the most damage to your morale over time. People who make career moves that are primarily influenced by money, family tradition and/or pressure to quickly decide on a career, do not experience the fulfillment that is due to someone as hard-working as you. Your motivation to choose a certain career should always be directly related to your happiness and satisfaction. In turn, the career you choose should be directly related to the impact you hope to make on another human being.

Be encouraged as you search for a career that fits you. Take advantage of the Individualized Career Planning assistance and career assessments available through WIN. The career selection process can sometimes be disheartening and frustrating, but the outcome yields great rewards. As long as you stay focused on your purpose, you are guaranteed to find the career for you. Good luck!
